Ear wax removal is $115 for both ears in clinic, or $170 for a home visit with travel included. A hearing test is $125, or $180 at home. Custom ear plugs start at $115 a pair, and filtered music plugs are quoted on enquiry. Every fee is all-inclusive.

Medicare doesn’t currently rebate ear wax removal by an audiologist. With Extras cover you may be able to claim a rebate — you get an itemised receipt on the day.

Ear wax removal
What is microsuction, and does it hurt?
Microsuction removes ear wax with gentle, low-pressure medical suction while the audiologist looks directly into the ear canal. It’s dry — no water — and most people find it painless; you’ll hear a rushing sound. Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable and we’ll pause.

How long does an appointment take?
Appointments are booked for 30 minutes. That covers the examination, the treatment and a before-and-after video check — the wax removal itself is often quicker.

Is there an age limit?
We see adults and children aged 8 and over. Younger children can sometimes be seen — call us first to talk it through.

How should I prepare?
Medicinal olive oil drops for two or three days beforehand can soften the wax. Don’t use drops if you have, or might have, a perforated eardrum, grommets, discharge, significant pain, a recent ear infection or previous ear surgery.

What happens if you find no wax?
You don’t pay for the visit. Your ears are examined first; if there’s no wax to remove, we tell you what we can see and what to do next.

Seek medical advice first if you have sudden hearing loss, significant ear pain, discharge or bleeding, marked dizziness, a suspected ear infection or something stuck in the ear.

No. LAC is independent, and plenty of hearing tests end with no device recommended at all.

Yes. Every fitting includes a 14-day trial, refundable apart from any custom-made parts.

Our main clinic is at 5 Castleton Court, Gladstone Park, open seven days, 9am–7:30pm. Glenroy runs Saturdays, 10am–6pm, inside Glenroy Physio. Home visits cover Melbourne’s northern suburbs, including aged care.

What do you need for a home visit?
We bring the equipment and lighting. All we need is a chair with a firm back for you to sit on.
